New school year brings new principals

KANSAS CITY — Five Diocesan elementary schools will open the year with new principals, and another will welcome a familiar face as interim principal.

One of the principals is a new principal to the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph.

Rebecca Sachen is the new principal at St. Andrew the Apostle School in Gladstone. She has previously served as a principal and teacher in schools in the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas.

The other new principals bring experience of leading schools in this diocese.

Mary Omecene is leading St. Peter School in Kansas City. She was previously principal at St. Charles Borromeo School in Kansas City, north.

Taking the helm at St. Charles Borromeo is Jeff Lynch, who served as principal of St. Mary’s High School in Independence, which closed at the end of the 2012-13 school year.

At St. John LaLande School in Blue Springs, Jean Ferrera is the new principal. She has served as principal of Holy Cross School, one of the Strong City schools in Kansas City’s northeast community.

Barb Deane is the new principal at Holy Cross. She had previously served at Christ the King School in Kansas City, which closed at the end of the 2012-13 school year.

The familiar face will be Rex Geary who will be returning to St. James School in St. Joseph to serve as interim principal this year.
