KANSAS CITY – Over 150 eighth graders from Holy Cross, St. Andrew, St. James, St. Patrick and St. Therese schools, as well as the Northland Catholic Homeschool Group traveled to St. Pius X High School on Oct. 25 for the Respect Life Education Day.
Father Joshua Bartlett started the day with opening prayer and Edie Ferrara, Respect Life Coordinator at St. Andrew Parish, welcomed the students to the event.
Then the students were divided into three groups that rotated around the high school to listen to the three speakers:
• Raegan Ratterman, a sidewalk counselor with Project Rachel, spoke on her life experiences with abortion. Ratterman, married for 26 years to her husband Pat, is a mother of 13.
• Melissa Ohden, an abortion survivor and national pro-life speaker and member of St. Andrew’s Parish Respect Life group, who survived the abortion procedure her 19 year old unwed mother was coerced into having in 1977.
• Patty Lewis, founder of Alexandra’s House, a local community based perinatal hospice.
After the talks, the students were treated to lunch, and tables of informational materials from the Respect Life & Human Rights Office of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, Rachel’s House, Mother’s Refuge, Missouri Right to Life, Alexandra’s House, Unbound and The Women’s Clinic.
The event was sponsored by the Respect Life and Human Rights Offices of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph.
