KANSAS CITY - The Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph along with the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas is planning a Corpus Christi procession and Global Living Rosary on May 25, 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
Catholics from neighboring dioceses are invited to attend. Planners hope to attract 40,000 people to the stadium to share faith with other believers in a devotional setting of a Corpus Christi procession and Global Living Rosary, representing the faith of believers throughout the world.
The event steering committee plans to present music by a massed choir, ethnic choirs and a contemporary Christian band. Conducted by Dr. Mario Pearson, director of music at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, the choirs and musicians will play a prominent role in the service. Mercy Sister Claudette Schiratti, Kansas City-St. Joseph diocesan director of music, said that if one person from each parish in the two dioceses were to participate, the choir would be 200 voices. There is no limit to the number of singers from any parish.
Each choir member will receive a packet of music and a CD to prepare. A rehearsal is scheduled for May 20, 7-9 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 4503 Frederick Blvd., St. Joseph, for those in the northern part of the diocese. A second rehearsal will be held on May 22, 7-9 p.m., at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 416 W. 12th Street, Kansas City, for those in the Kansas City area and south.
Ethnic choirs, representing Asia, Oceania, Europe, the Americas and Africa, are welcome to be part of the massed choir as well as perform their own songs.
Those who are interested in being a part of the choirs can send name, address, phone number, e-mail, parish and diocese to: Sister Claudette Schiratti, P.O. Box 419037, Kansas City, Mo., 64141-6037, or by e-mail to schiratti@diocesekcsj.org. The deadline for responding is April 1.
If you have any questions, please call Sister Claudette at (816) 756-1858, ext. 255. END
