Golfing to Build a Playground

Another Hibernian effort to support Catholic schools is the newly reconfigured, and unique, WEE Irish Golf Classic to be held at Hillcrest Golf Club, 8200 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City,  on Monday, June 17.

The event is described as 17 par 3’s and a Sprint. The afternoon of Irish fun will have the course arranged so that each hole, with one exception, will be a par 3. The outlier is a par 5 where teams can pay to race the clock and their score on the hole will be based on how quickly they can hole the ball rather than the number of shots. AOH is hoping to contrast its event from “normal” scrambles by creating a unique and fun event.

Plans include having four holes be designated as “Hole-in-One” prize holes where a hole-in-one will result in $9,000 to the shooter and $1,000 to the school project, described below, A final one-shot attempt for ten competitors will be held at the tournament’s conclusion for a $50,000 hole-in-one.

The Division has set a substantial stretch goal of raising $15,000 in order to provide Our Lady of Hope School with a real playground to replace an asphalt parking lot. If achieved the area will have a safe playing surface and install a brand-new climbing wall.

The Hibernians are pleased and honored that Lamar Hunt, Jr., has agreed to serve as Honorary Chair of the WEE Irish Classic.

The website www.weeirishclassic.com with event information, registration and sponsorship opportunities will also be available by February 15.
