Musica Sacra Chorus and Orchestra, 7 p.m., Feb. 18, Arrupe Hall Auditorium, Rockhurst University, 54th and Troost, Kansas City.

The concert will feature two composers — Isabella Leonarda and Henry Purcell. After joining an Ursuline convent and remaining active in the religious community until her  death in 1704, Leonarda published more than 200 compositions. Musica Sacra will perform Kyrie from the Messa Concertata, her
first setting of the Mass text from 1674, and a 1698 psalm setting, Beatus Vir.

Purcell has been called the most important native-born English composer before the 20th century. The organist of Westminster Abbey and the English Chapel Royal, he composed both sacred and instrumental music and wrote operas and music for a variety of plays. Musica Sacra will perform Te Deum and Jubilate in D Major.

Musica Sacra music director and conductor Timothy L. McDonald, Ph.D., will present Live Program Notes at 6:15 p.m., followed by the 7 p.m. concert.
